I have found the Technology class at Springfield College, taught by Prof. Lucien Howard, to be very informative. Some information was familiar to me from previous educational endeavors or from professional experience. I learned intricate detail about Excel, PowerPoint Presentations, Publishing, and other useful information. The course utilized the the text/workbook: Learning Computer Literacy with Microsoft Office 2003. The book came with a CD and provided clear instructions that were easy to follow.
I think this course helped strengthen my foundation on the computer skills that I already had. Most of us have some working knowledge about computers that are functional enough to produce basic documents. This course opened up a new world for me, because now I am aware of special little tricks to make my life a little easier as I work. Everything that I learn is helpful to work smarter and not harder.
Overall, I think this course has been great. I find myself helping co-workers with special projects and even my boss. She was working on a PowerPoint presentation just yesterday and had way too many words on the screen. I gave her a couple of hints that I learned in class. I advised that she should have fewer words on her slides, utilize the notes that the audience cannot see, but will help guide her discussion, and to be mindful that the audience should be focused on her presentation and not reading long PowerPoint slides. She thanked me for the information.
I have also used the excel program to set up my families finances. It is very helpful to know where our money goes and how we can reduce our overall spending.
Again, this course has been great...for me! +
